Saturday Out and About.

Saturday morning has a routine - breakfast, coffee and 'The Guardian' followed by swimming lessons for Finn and the weekly shop. We then have lunch and the afternoon is our oyster.
Today we collected a friend of Finn's and headed for Croome Park. It is a favourite destination of ours because it is such a beautiful house and the grounds allow the boys to RUN. It also has great views of my beautiful Malvern Hills.

I loved the sky today - really quite dramatic.

The National trust has only recently acquired the house which is quite empty. I love that - you really get a sense of the scale of the rooms. Georgian houses have such wonderful scale and are so elegant. As far as the boys are concerned though the real joy of Croome is the play park... It has a world War Two theme as an airfield was based at Croome in the war. There was a lot of shooting going on in the park. I could write a whole post about boys & gun play.

The bunker...

Climbing to the watch tower...

Finn & his friend showing off matching Converse in the 'parachute' Swing.

Back at the shop my eyes were taken by the plant stall. I was good & walked away but couldn't resist a photo of the bee working hard.
We then headed off to 'Clives Fruit Farm' for a bit of fruit picking, pig feeding and ice-cream buying. This is one of our favourite destinations - there is a great farm shop as well the many fields of strawberries, plums, cherries, raspberries, pears and several types of apple. There is so much to do & look at that is easy to spend a whole afternoon there.

There are lots of Tamworth pigs that they raise for their shop. In the autumn they are fed the fallen apples and they are sold as pork 'ready sauced'! Delicious.

All in all it was a lovely day. Tonight we enjoyed steak from the farm shop and I am going to slurp a couple of glasses of wine before heading to my bed. Have a lovely weekend x

  3. Croome Park is one of our favourite places to visit too. Haven't been for a while, in fact I don't remember a play park, is it new? Still haven't got to Clive's yet.

  5. I second Lou on being envious about the paper reading! And lovely that you've had a good day. I absolutely love my national trust membership definitely a must have - I don't think I'll ever cancel my membership! It has been a washout here on the south coast - I didn't leave the house. Thanks for your comment. I know in about 8 years we'll be saying you can't go out in that for quite different reasons!! Enjoy Sunday A x

  6. Hello Karen:
This all sounds a wonderful day out with something of interest for all of you and plenty of opportunity to explore the great outdoors. We have never been to Croome Park but can understand exactly what you mean about enjoying the architecture and scale of a place without the distraction of furnishings.

And, such a lovely idea about visiting the fruit farm. We are, however, amazed at the price of PYO cherries....just £1 a kilo here in Budapest and ready picked to boot!

  7. (Not the same Annie who commented above, I'm the knitsofacto one!)

I just love the idea of the Tamworths being 'ready sauced'. And what a grand place Croome Park is! Have you been to Witley Court, it can't be too far from you? English Heritage not National Trust, but another amazing empty house, well more of a shell really, and with the most incredible fountains in the garden.
